Chimpanzee Tracking Uganda; chimpanzee tracking takes place at Kibale Forest National Park which is found in the western part of Uganda, about 348 kilometers from Kampala with about 5 hours of driving.
The forest covers about 795 square kilometers and is home to 1500 Chimpanzees and more than 13 primate species. Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest begins at Kanyanchu visitor area where briefing is done and tracking takes place twice a day; in the morning at 8am and at 2pm in the afternoon.
Trekking through the forest to encounter the chimpanzees and back lasts between 3 to 5 hours and you are allowed 1 hour maximum with the Chimpanzees which are known to possess 98.7% human DNA.

3 Days Chimpanzee Tracking Uganda Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Kibale Forest
On arrival at Entebbe airport, you will be met and welcomed by our company representative together with the driver / guide and embark on your journey to Kibale forest national park – a place known as “the primate capital of the world” driving through Mityana road.
The drive takes 4 and half hours and you visit Amabere Ganyinamwiru stalagmites site and caves with a waterfall in Fort Portal as well as a visit to the crater lakes with a great view of the Rwenzori mountain foothills. Dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee forest guest house or Kibale Guest Cottages
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest
After breakfast, report to the park headquarters for briefing and proceed for chimpanzee tracking near Kanyanchu. This can take you half a day. There are other primates in the area like the golden monkey, L’Hoest monkey, baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey, red colobus, blue monkeys and pottos. Other animals include forest elephants unique from the common type, giant forest hogs and a striking tree species.
Enjoy Lunch and later go for a guided nature walk to Bigodi wetland, a good site for birders. The Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek can easily be marked among the other 137 bird species. There is also an array of butterfly species.

Day 3: Back to Entebbe and Departure
Have breakfast and embark on your journey back to Entebbe with lunch en-route and drop-off at Entebbe airport for your onward flight.
