This Uganda-Rwanda safari package begins in Kigali, where you can be picked up directly from the airport or your hotel. You will have time to explore Kigali city and cross over to Uganda, where you will enjoy captivating landscapes and gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
Proceed to Queen Elizabeth for a safari, with tree-climbing lions being the highlight, and the Kazinga Channel boat cruise. Immerse yourself in the Ankole cultural experience and more game viewing in Lake Mburo Park before flying out from Entebbe Airport. It is a great week in Uganda from Kigali.
Detailed 7 Days in Uganda from Kigali Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi (4 hours)
You will be picked up from the Airport in Kigali, and if time allows, you will visit the genocide memorial site and proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, crossing into Uganda through the Katuna boarder.
Have lunch in Kabale and proceed to Bwindi, arriving late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi.
Have breakfast and transfer to the park offices for a briefing about Mountain Gorilla trekking by the ranger guide. You will then be allocated the gorilla family to visit and head out with your ranger guide on the trek. This lasts between 3 and 6 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas, and you will be allowed to view and take photos for 1 hour.
You will then head out of the forest, receive your gorilla trekking certificate, and join your driver/guide for the transfer back to the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge as above.
NOTE: While you go for the gorilla trek, anyone who doesn’t wish to go for the trek can stay at the lodge and enjoy the relaxed stay in Bwindi or engage in one of the community tours.
Day 3: Transfer to Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth National Park (6 hours)
Have breakfast and embark on the drive to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will arrive in time for lunch, and head out for an evening game drive in search of the famous tree-climbing lions.
Ishasha is less explored and offers authentically wild experiences with abundant wildlife, including buffaloes and giant African bush elephants. Dinner and overnight stay at Ishasha Jungle Lodge
Day 4: Game Drive & Launch Cruise
Have an early morning breakfast, and head out for a game drive in Ishasha to boost your chances of seeing the tree-climbing lions and a leopard on a good morning. Depart Ishasha and proceed to the Mweya peninsula, where you will have lunch, and embark on the afternoon launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lakes George and Edward.
The Kazinga Channel is famous for having the highest concentration of hippos in the world, and you will witness this during the launch cruise. You can also look out for the Nile crocodile, many bird species, and other animals coming to drink and soak up, especially buffalo and elephants.
After the cruise, proceed with a transit game drive and transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Elephant Hab Lodge.
Day 5: Game Drive & Transfer to Emburara Farm (3 hours)
Have an early morning breakfast and head out for a game drive in the Kasenyi sector, which is a popular mating site for antelopes and a favourable hunting ground for carnivores, and you might be lucky to experience a live kill!
Exit the park before midday and embark on the transfer to Emburara Farm Lodge in Mbarara city, arriving in time for lunch and an evening farm experience where you will join herdsmen on the farm for a sunset grazing experience with the unique Ankole cattle.
Dinner and overnight at Emburara Farm Lodge.
Day 6: Milking Session, Okuseetura & Transfer to Lake Mburo NP. (2 hours)
Wake up at dawn and join in to witness the morning traditional milking experience of the Ankole cattle at the farm. You will have a chance to try it if you wish. Watch the cattle leaving the kraal to graze (known as okuseetura in the native Runyankore language), and you can also head out for the watering and farm tour.
The Ankole cattle are a unique indigenous breed of cattle with beautiful long, curved horns, and this farm experience is purely authentic and rewarding. Have breakfast and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, where you will arrive in time for lunch and relax at the lodge.
In the evening, have dinner and head out for a night game drive, which promises sights of the elusive leopard and hyenas, among others. Return for a good night’s sleep at Rwakobo Rock.
Day 7: Walking Safari, Transfer to Entebbe & Departure (4 hours)
Have an early morning breakfast and head out for a guided walking safari in the company of a ranger guide. This gets you closer to the animals, and among these are zebras, eland, giraffes, buffalo, and many small antelopes, among others.
There are no lions in Lake Mburo National Park, so it is safer to undertake the walking safaris. You will also encounter more Ankole cattle on the local farms near the park boundary.
After the walking safari, you will embark on the vehicle and begin your journey to Entebbe with lunch en route and a stopover at the equator in Kayabwe for photos. Proceed to Entebbe, arriving in the afternoon, and drop off at the airport for your onward flight.
