To trek to the mountain gorillas in Rwanda, you must first obtain a permit. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB), which oversees and regulates all tourism-related activities in Rwanda, is the organization that grants permits. Rwandan gorilla permits are currently available for purchase for $1,500 per individual.

Only 96 gorilla permits are issued by Rwanda each day, and reservations can be made online or through a reputable local travel agency. People who wish to trek Rwanda’s endangered mountain gorillas should always reserve their permits well in advance (at least six months) to avoid missing out due to the restricted number of permits available each day.
