Guide to Camping in the Rain in Uganda.

Are you predicting rain, and more rain, and you have a camping reservation for this coming weekend? Are you worried about how you will camp in the rain?  Well, all your questions have now come to an end, with solutions brought up.

To be honest, I hated camping in the rain, but with time, I have learned a few tricks and strategies for staying dry while camping, so it’s now really an amazing activity.  Camping in the rain has its unique charm, and it’s a lot of fun!

Stay dry in your tent.

You may do a few things to stay dry while camping in a tent. You will require a tent with a fly, which conceals any tent openings and deters rain.

It’s crucial to have a fly that completely encloses your tent’s windows and openings and is made of waterproof material. If your tent is not securely covered, rain can easily get inside.

When erecting your tent, place the guy lines for the fly far from the shelter. To allow water to drain off easily, make sure your fly is nicely taut.

Even if rain is not predicted, remember to set up the fly because the weather might change suddenly.

Choose a high, level area while looking for a place to pitch your tent. Setting up your tent in a potential puddle is the last thing you want to do!

Keep all of your equipment away from the sides of the tent when inside. Everything will stay dry thanks to this.

Check the forecast, then check it again.

Always check the weather before going camping, and prepare your gear accordingly.

Watch out for any sudden changes in the forecast. Avoid camping during powerful thunderstorms, and don’t be hesitant to change your travel plans if necessary.

Tarps, Tarps, and more tarps!

Tarping your site will help keep you dry in case of rain.

Plan to bring at least two tarps, one to cover your picnic table/eating area and the other to add extra protection above your tent.

Always set up a slanted roof to let water run off, and tie your tarp as tightly as you can to prevent it from flying in the wind.

Your picnic table can be covered with a tarp so that you can simply cook and eat your food in a dry area. Additionally, it’s the ideal place to shelter in place and stay dry.

Get your campsite rain-ready.

During your visit, there are a few ways to keep your equipment sturdy and dry. Keep all of your personal belongings in your car or in a waterproof bag. To prevent the rest of your equipment from getting wet, put damp stuff in bags or bins.

When the rain begins, be sure to cover your kindling and fuel with a tarp.

To avoid mold, dry your tent and other equipment before packing up and leaving for home. When you reach home, leave your gear out to air dry if you must pack in the rain.

Bring a rainy-day backpack.

Avoiding boredom is the key to getting through a wet day while camping. Come prepared and brainstorm fun rainy-day activities with your family and friends.

Some of our preferred indoor activities include:

  • Board games.
  • Arts and crafts.
  • A Deck of cards.

Other rainy-day essentials.

Make some room—we need to carry a few more necessities!

You must have a poncho or raincoat to stay dry. The temperature can feel colder when it’s raining, so bring an additional layer for below.

Bring plenty of additional clothing, especially socks, and waterproof boots or rubber shoes. You’d be shocked at how many outfits you can go through in a single weekend of rain.

Bring a toque, a few extra blankets, and some extra beach towels to dry off with when you go outside in the rain on those cool, damp days.

Rainy days might unexpectedly turn dismal. Make sure you have plenty of lighting, such as headlights, lanterns, and flashlights.

Remember to bring extra batteries!

Do not let a drop of rain deter you from going to hike on any single day!

If you are prepared, hiking in the rain can still be pleasurable. Make sure you have the necessary equipment, such as rain boots and water-resistant hiking boots.

If there are weather warnings for dangerous winds, flooding, or thunder and lightning, stay indoors. Keep to the trail and be cautious of slick conditions.

Do not forget that positive attitude!

Rainy or sunny, camping is the ideal way to enjoy all that nature has to offer, especially during Uganda safaris, where you get so close to the wildlife! Do not let the rain prevent you from having fun.
